Safety For Buyers and Sellers Buyer Safety

Find an agent that will have appointments made through their office or company. Offices keep a record of who has made an appointment to see a house. If you are making appointments with people, there will not be any record of who has come through your house. NEVER make an appointment directly with a buyer. That person could be anybody.
Many areas of the country now have electronic key boxes available, which require a code to obtain the key. Access to key boxes is only given to real estate professionals and every time the key box is used, it records who entered the property. Find out if the electronic key box is available in your area. If it is, make sure your agent is using that instead of a combination. Anyone could find out a combination, and you would not know who is entering your house.
Put away your valuables. Anything valuable that can be easily stashed in a pocket or purse should be put someplace secure (money, credit cards, check books, jewelry, valuable knick-knacks, etc.). Also do not leave them in plain view in closets or drawers, which can be easily opened. Don’t leave a purse or pocket book out.
Put anything breakable someplace where it can’t be bumped into, there are klutzy people out there as well (like me).
